Alumuna

"Alumuna / Young & Free" is a two-sided illustrated publication with three objectives: to share a piece of Indigenous Australia’s culture, to highlight the way in which colonisation has impacted their community and, as a result, allow the viewer to empathise with their experiences both past and present.

To achieve this, I created comic-style visuals to pair with an indigenous Australian story from The Dreaming entitled "The Rainbow Serpent" - this version written by Michael Connolly who is a descendent of the Kullilla Tribe. It concludes in the centre of the book, at which point the book is flipped over and read backwards. This second side details the destruction of indigenous Australian culture and lifestyle as a result of colonisation.

Key tasks executed:

• Research
• Illustration
• Publication design
• Preparation for print

WPP: Atticus Journal

Working with University of the Arts London as a Graduate Consultant, I was tasked to design a visually interesting and conceptually appropriate cover for WPP’s 'Atticus' journal - an annual publication celebrating the feats achieved within their company. A prompt for the project was provided simply as “using creativity to solve the world’s problems”.

Upon pitching three different ideas, we landed on a concept that played with the idea of a future utopia. The cover would display a perfect world where all the issues of today are no more, and everything is vibrant, happy and peaceful. To this design however, I dissected it into a jigsaw puzzle to express the idea that this perfect world is still a work in progress - but that all the pieces exist (as seen on the back cover) and a full picture can in fact be achieved with perseverance.

Key tasks executed:

• Concept artworking
• Project proposal pitches

• Illustration
• Publication design
• Preparation for print

London Ground

"London Ground" is another project created for university, with the brief stating to communicate the identity of London today in a visual way, by seeking out and exploring its (sometimes hidden) histories.

Skate culture has been prevalent in the UK since the early 70’s, stemming from a very specific location in the undercroft of the Southbank Centre in central London. The goal of this project was to shine a light on different parts of the city that to the average passer-by go unnoticed – but through the eyes of London’s skateboarding community could, and have been, utilised as a means for much more.

Key tasks executed:

• Research

• Illustration
• Graphic design

• Preparation for print

• Mockup design

Jacaranda Publishing

Jacaranda Publishing enlisted me to produce an illustration for the front cover of an English textbook for use by Grade 7 students in schools throughout Australia. The artwork needed to be exciting for the students, the intended readers, rather than designed for the institutions. Additionally, a similar design was later requested for the Grade 8 edition of the publication too.
